Aqua Blue to the Cyclades and Crete ...

Ten years have passed since Demetroula connected Thessaloniki with Crete.

'On Friday (29/6), after so many years of absence of coastal shipping, at 5pm the maiden voyage from Heraklion's port of the Aqua Blue began.
This route, according to naval agent Haris Karaharissis, seems to have significant demand, as the first bookings show, however, Mr Haracharias, explains that without the subsidy from the ministry this line would not be viable.
Thessaloniki, Smaragda Michailidou, travels with her parents and brothers in Tinos in recent years. "We are a six-member family and we wanted to try the ship from Thessaloniki, as until now we used to travel by train to Athens and Rafina by boat to Tinos," he describes. Excited were many older passengers who relive the experience of the past years and saw, as they said, the harbor to revive. Important was the presence of cargo trucks and a tourist bus to Crete, where it will serve a group of tourists traveling by air. For the young Dionysia that travels Syros, the reasons chosen by the boat were economic, as he said, it is more profitable.
"Captain Gerasimos Giakoumidis feels" proud ":" We are inaugurating the route in its repetition, "he said in an interview with ANA-MPA and stressed the need for the world to support this route that unites Greece.

The passenger ferry boat "Aqua Blue", with a capacity of 1,000 people and 300 vehicles, will connect Thessaloniki with the Sporades, the Cyclades and Crete. Starting from Thessaloniki, it will pass through Skiathos, Andros, Syros, Tinos, Mykonos, Paros, Naxos, Santorini, with a final destination in Heraklion. The ferry will depart every Tuesday and Friday at 17:00 from Thessaloniki.
According to the relevant contract, the line from Thessaloniki to Skiathos and Syros is subsidized, instead of rent of 49,430 euros per full trip, including VAT and other legal bookings. From Syros to Heraklion, Crete, the ship will operate freely.
The relevant contract, signed yesterday at the Ministry of Shipping, provides for the execution of two routes per week, during the summer period until 02/9/2018, with the possibility of approaching intermediate ports.
It is noted that the same ship is expected to join with another Sporades, Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos, which will run every Monday morning at 8:00 am, with a return from Alonnisos at 15:45, Skopelos at 16:45, and Skiathos at 17:30, with final destination in Thessaloniki.
For ticket reservations from all ports of departure to all destinations, according to the shipping company, a 30% discount is offered when the round trip is issued'

London's first EasyJet flight landed from London's Gatwick, inaugurating the line that was a year-long bet for Central Greece.

The low cost company Airbus A320 traveled to the New Anchialos corridor around 9 o'clock that night, carrying 187 passengers from the British capital, mostly British and some Greeks, without having to deal with any problems despite the difficult weather conditions. Among them were Volioans who were smiling for satisfaction with the significant development of the air link.

Speaking at M, EasyJet's head of service, Daddy Grippa, said he was pleased with both the fullness of the flight and the organization that existed, expressing his thanks to the airport's commander, Costas Efstathiou and the rest of the staff at the airport. The flight departed at about 9.30pm for Gatwick with 85 passengers from the UK, a satisfactory number as Mr Gripa said.

Waiting to see what the weather will bring ...

A few storms over the Pelion and Volos, and the nasty stuff is further south, at the moment, as storm Nefeli wreaks havoc on the mainland.

All too much though for our favourite chuggy ferry, the Proteus yesterday. No service as the spanners were needed ...

In the morning hours, the Harbor Authority of Volos was informed by the Captain of E / C-C "PROTEUS" NP. 4007, which was scheduled to operate from the Port of Volos to Skiathos - Skopelos - Alonissos - Mantoudi - Glossa - Skiathos and return to Volos, that during the preparation for sailing there was damage to the left main engine.

From the Port Authority of Volos, the detention of the "PROTEUS" was forbidden until the damages were restored and the class attendance certificate was presented by the classification society, while the 153 passengers of the ship were forwarded to their destination with the C / C "EXPRESS SKIATHOS" NP 9937.

A bump to a passenger-ferryboat ship was noted on Thursday afternoon at the port of Skiathos.

The fast ferry "Symi 11", registered in Rhodes, bumped the quay during the mooring operation. It  suffered a small rupture in the left part of its stern above the waterline.

The ship, operating on the return route on the Skopelos-Skiathos-Agios Konstantinos route, carried 66 passengers and 30 crew members, as well as 14 passengers. with their cars and a motorcycle.

The summer solstice has happened, its June 21, also known as the longest day of the year ...

Sunrise in Skiathos was at 6:00 AM
Sunset in Skiathos 8:56 PM

That's 14 hours, and 56 minutes of midsummer fun.

Meanwhile at Stonehenge, and most of Britain you can enjoy 16 hours and 38 minutes of daylight.
As, the sun rose at 4:43am and will set at 9:31pm

Its going to be a warm one, So where would you rather be? sunkissed, naked at Stonehenge or down on Spartacus with my good friend Stig?

Anyway its warm with a hint of a thundertsorm from the clouds over the mainland. Its also my 'Half Birthday' so only six months to go to the full one on Winter solstice.

Church bells are ringing ...

Clouds are building, and there are distant rumbles of thunder. Never a good sign when the power goes off.

Hopefully its just a routine cut, rather than one caused by nature ...

Its started to darken in the room, the sky is turning grey. I dont need a weather app. Its going to rain.

Its started, there is a dink dink dink, on the roof. Now its falling harder, i can hear the start of a steady stream, flowing down the street.

Its now falling as a cascade, from the old ladies roof, onto the cobbles, and becoming a torrent in the street.

A cool breeze, developing, you can even smell it, rain ...

Someone outside has a squeaky shoe, it must have a waterlogged sole or its a very large mouse outside.

Now you can hear it, thunder as the storm approaches, from Skopelos ...

A slightly later update:

Well its 08:30, and the rain has been torrential for the last twenty minutes. Its raining so hard, i can hardly hear the church bells, over the noise of the downpour ...

The harbour has turned brown, with the mud, as the storm drains, are flushed through. Papadiamanti will be nice and fresh later ...

Only to be woken by thunder, a few hours later. Quite an impressive sight it was too.

You could be mistaken, and think we were under attack, at 3am the lightning strikes were like this.

That will have put a few of the newbies off.

However this morning its dry, the swallows and house martins, are performing acrobatics overhead.

Airport Friday ....

Busiest day of the week ...

Even the earth is on the wobble, this morning.

Two earthquakes of 3.8 Ohm have been woken up today in the Northern Sporades. The first earthquake occurred, according to seismoi.gr at 05:51 24 km north - northwest of Alonissos. There was a new earthquake of 2.5 Richter at 5:55, 26 km Northeast of Skiathos, while at 6:11 there was a third earthquake 3.8 Richter 23 km North - Northwest of Alonissos.

Queues heading out of the door, the heat and temperatures are rising. You make your way through the maddening crowds, Check in, watch your bag heading off - Will you ever see it again? Will it arrive in one piece and intact? ...

Head for security, another queue, boarding card checked. Bottles dumped, you set the alarms off on the metal detector. Bag x-rayed, Body scanned, and probed and holding on to your trousers for dear life as you fumble with the belt.

Sweating profusely and really missing that ditched water bottle, you finally emerge in the living hell that is the departures lounge. Then you search for a seat, one that does not have someones ticketless handbag resting on it, protecting their own 'personal sweaty space' ...

Oh what fun it can be ...

Aqua Blue: Thessaloniki - Sporades - Cyclades - Crete

By the end of June it is expected to start another route that will connect Thessaloniki for the quarter with Sporades, Cyclades and Crete, while at the same time, the launching of the ship, which will connect Thessaloniki from June 15 to the Sporades is ready, as the decision may be issued even today, as Undersecretary of Shipping and Island Policy, Nektarios Santorinios said, speaking at the station of the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency, "104.9 FM Agency".

"It's a long-running effort from the ministry," said Mr. Santorinios and, as he said, after the ministry managed to find the money to subsidize the line, he proceeded to the next steps: "About 15 days ago - perhaps and more - we made public the declaration of a connection between Thessaloniki and Sporades, Cyclades and possibility of expansion in Crete ".

"There is interest from some shipping companies and soon offers will be deposited in order to start this link by the end of June," the deputy minister said. "It is a line that we consider necessary and will help Sporades and Cyclades too, because it will connect them to two big markets such as Northern Greece and Crete". Also, according to the deputy minister, it will be an incentive for many of Northern Greece to visit the Cyclades and Crete.

"Around 20 June there will be announcements on the itineraries. The intention is - but is not finalized - to depart from Thessaloniki on Tuesday and Friday, "noted Mr. Santorinios and added:" In total, this boat - because it will catch several ports in the middle - is estimated to reach Crete in approximately 19 hours'.

"In Skiathos, for example, it will be around five to six hours in Syros in 10 hours," he added, while stressing that this route will last until mid-September.
