Monsoon season day five ...

The weather app brigade are strangely quiet ...

Perhaps they are following the 'Skiathian advice' and looking out of the window to check the weather forecast. Only one word to describe it - foul ...

Raindrops started falling lightly last night, just as I watched a wedding taking place. You had to feel sorry for the couple, lovely tables set out by the pool, music and friends enjoying a great evening. The skies all around flashing with lightning as a backdrop.

Later I met up with Adrian and Vibeke, friends from Denmark. I doubled as the waiter for their table in a slightly Basil Fawlty mode. After all the last person they expected turning up with complementary ouzo's was me ...

I returned later for our assigned deliveries, Adrian & Vibeke bringing Scandanavian delicacies, for SWMBO. Me with an English delicacy for him, which we both enjoy ...

Rain started to fall as we spoke, a fine mist becoming a heavy drizzle. Even for two cricket loving buddies, it became too much, and we put the covers on and headed home.

The third thunderstorm of the day erupted, flooding the street. I retired to bed after a well deserved Gin and Tonic. (Lots of gossip about Mossies at the moment) Marmite and Gin and Tonic do the business for me.

As 'Nobby Butler' my teacher used to say in Chemistry class, remember this equation - Rain + Heat = Mosquito heaven ...

The power has been off, due to the storm, in fact its woke me a few times in the night. Its like 100s of ants in wellington boots, are tap dancing on the roof. Right now outside its torrential rain. It would pass for tropical rain if we were there. I think I am back in Trinidad rather than Skiathos right now ...

The street is totally flooded, the storm drains cannot cope. Its that kind of morning here on the rock. One when you wish you had not left your wellies at the office.

Just when you thought it was safe to look out, the first lightning bolt of the day, followed by a roll of thunder. Happy Sunday from Skiathos everyone ...

09:20am:

After a brief interlude, a shower deposited more rain from a sunny sky upon us. A lovely rainbow over the hills as I departed for work

Lots of soil washed into the road at Golden Villas, Kassandra bay, Achladies. Rocks and boulders on the road at Sklitheri. Fire brigade at Kanapitsa near Hermes hotel. The main road at Troulos a mud bath, but up the hill at La Luna, it was dry down as far as Skiathos Palace.

Some rather soggy looking tourists, waiting for transfer busses this morning ...

19:00hrs:   During the morning someone despatched a JCB to clear the roads, however a pressure washer is needed to clear the mud away especially in Troulos. A great effort by mother nature, to supply heat from the skies this afternoon. However the pressure cooker valve, clouds won over.

After my afternoon nap the sight of brollies passing the window. Back at work in the evening gloom, now has a steady drizzle, and grey murky clouds all around.

21:00 Its tipped down again - the island is quiet its like October ...

We are promised better weather tomorrow ...
