Well that was a storm ...

Well if you are going to have a storm - have a good one ..

So we did - this was the scene at 16:20 - its was a particularly violent one ...

There was increasing amounts of unstable cloud formations, from first thing this morning. The clouds boiling and dissipating before the eyes. It had been breezy to say the least ...

The first announcement of the impending storm, came with a rolling thunderclap at 14:30. This interrupting SWMBO & Juniors swim. On the way home, I said 'One clap of thunder, and the beaches have emptied as if by magic' ...

It was pointless trying to nap this afternoon, the skies had darkened and the storm struck with a ferocity we have not seen for some time. It deposited 39mm of rain on the island in just a few hours ...

At one time the rain was falling at a rate of 217.4 mm/per hour, winds were gusting at 59.5 km/hr
  • There have been issues with power supplies, surges and outrages ...
  • All down the island the roads are affected by silt being washed off the hills.
  • Sklitheri has the usual wash and rock falls against the side of the road
  • Kolios opposite Hermes, Large trees down in the studios, and at Stathis taverna - Fire brigade in attendance.
  • Troulos a large muddy stain right down the road, silt washed off the hills.
  • Troulos to Koukounaries all the roads slippery due to pine needles covering the roads
  • Power cables being repaired outside Skiathos Palace Hotel, earlier this evening.
  • Reports of lightning strike in area of Myrtia village Koukounaries and small fire.
