Kathari Deutera (Clean Monday) ...

Well we had a great day yesterday ...

Today on Kathari Deutera (Clean Monday) it seems the kite will remain grounded. The streets will be clean if nothing else. It's been raining since 3am, and the outlook is not at all promising.

No sign of a weather window, before late afternoon, for fun on Koukounaries today.

But where I come from it always rains on Bank Holidays ...

10:30am: As mentioned earlier the weather is foul here this morning. Still tipping it down, However I have been out on a sortie splashing through the puddles. This is the 'Kathari Deutera Lagana' Its a leven bread, baked without yeast, in the bakery in Papadamatis street this morning.

Lagana is a traditional flatbread baked for Clean Monday, the first day of Great Lent before Easter. For those fasting most strictly, the lagana is made without oil. For those less strict, then olive oil is used but no dairy products.  Sesame seeds are the most common topping and often fresh, or dried herbs are added for even more flavour. These are plain with sesame seeds and medium softness.

Olive Oil, Salt Pepper & Oregano ...
Today we should eat just seafood, and vegetarian niceties. That was the plan for today, being spent with Greek friends. However our house is slowly succumbing to the plague, more so after yesterdays fun and games. So what you see above, we were taking to share with friends. This was to be assisted on its way, with a glass (or two) of wine and Ouzo.

The tavernas and ouzerias should be packed today, with locals feasting on every imaginable type of shellfish. However now it seems, like us most will be at home instead, with a more modest day in prospect ...

There was only one thing for it - load up the woodburner, ready for use, and hibernate. The afternoon snooze to the sound of the percussion of rain on the roof.

Nikos Skiathos weather station, gives a pretty good indication, of the 'rather damp' conditions ...
