24th March 2014 - School parade ...

Is one day before the 25th March - Independence day ...

Independence day is a public holiday here in Greece, So the children celebrate it today.

A slightly later start at school, at 9am. Junior had been learning the lines for weeks, as had all the other children. Each class puts on a show, of recitals, music, and Greek dancing for the parents ...

Then once the show was over, the National anthem was sung with passion, and we all joined up with the other classes to form a parade. Winding through the streets, holding up and stopping the traffic.

The head children of each class carried their class wreath, followed by their classmates along the harbour to the Hero's memorial.

The wreaths were laid, by each class in turn, then once the ceremony was over, the children were free to enjoy the rest of the day with their parents. Most took turns to have their photo taken by the memorial. Before hugs for their teachers and off they went ...

I did take a few photos yesterday, around 200 to sort through, and pass on to parents. The teachers want copies too ...


Tuesday is Independence day, and it will be the big parade, and the senior childrens turn at the memorial. Then they will parade along the harbour ...
