Kalo Mina - Δεκέμβριος ...

Good Month - December ...

Yes it's December - the official month of acceptable daytime drinking.

(I meant coffee) ...

Well it's the season to be jolly. Some signs of seasonal cheer around the town. Some nice window displays as shop owners make an extra effort. Toys on display outside the toy shops.

Even the walnuts arrived at Carrefour, on Friday and were flying off the shelves. The Christmas decoration supplies also, appeared, with seasonal sweets, including my favourite Greek Christmas Cookies (Kourambiedes)

The social event of the month is the annual Christmas Bazaar, organised by the International Women's Club. This will take place on Sunday 15th December at the High school. The ladies working hard to make the arrangements, and lovely cakes, gifts and sweets once again.

A glass of mulled wine, souvelakia, and seasonal fare on what we hope once again, will be a sunny day. The blue daleks, our famous Christmas trees will re-appear, the illuminated galleons, and dolphins will be back too.

The Tries Hieraches nativity scene cats, will soon be able to return to their home.

This weekend has been cool, grey and rather damp. Only yesterday my neighbours lit their fire early afternoon to keep warm. Out of the chimney there was steam, that's how cool it was. Steady rain overnight, the ants, this time in trainers tap dancing on the roof. Showers once again this morning too ...

A damp start, and a chilly one to the last month of the year ...

Later update:

Raining on and off all day, its cold this evening, and yes its still raining. The woodburner is on woodmark 5 once again.

For the foodies, Rick Steins recipe of the month for December is Hake. Its a prized fish that can grow to huge size in the Atlantic. In th UK its sent to Spain. Down here they call it codfish, but actually its Hake. Sadly from what i saw landed on Friday - its all immature, and a 30cm fish is a large one. The mediteranean style recipe is here if you want to give it a try ...
