Winter maintenance (2) ...

Best laid plans and all that ...

Seems we are expecting a couple of wet days, so change in plan. This morning, I hacked lumps out of the bougainvillea. Likewise out of the neighbours version, much to the appreciation of the ladies in black.

My neighbours version, which is allowed to grow unchecked every year - now towers over their house. It encroaches on to the roof of mine, putting my tiles in peril, come the next gale - well at least it did ...

I borrowed some long arm pruners, from visiting English neighbours - who have a similar problem, and gave my half of the street the chop. At least the chimney should survive unscathed. Leaning out of the windows, was not exactly a PC method to prune the triffid.

I think this year the beast may do some damage - especially when we get a gale or if we get snow. Probably taking out the electricity cable for that part of the street. Its weighing down the cable, between the houses - using it as its main support ...

Mr Mayor should be happy, next time he passes by, his lovely ornate street light is back in view - and doing its job again ...

Not enough time between the school runs to clean the windows upstairs. So work in progress on that job for now. Did manage to enjoy the view of the harbour late this afternoon. The trawlers are back in the fishing grounds. 12 Apostles arrived surrounded by seagulls so evidently a good catch.

Still some tourists in shorts enjoying the afternoon sun on the waterfront, and frequenting the ouzerias.

Bought a kilo of pinkish tomatoes, mixed with a can of chopped tomatoes and made a lovely rich soup for tonights supper. Crusty bread from the bakery shop at the bottom of Papadamatis street.

So England v Poland on TV tonight - may the home team win  ...
