Baptism ...

All aboard the Kalypso, for the final trip of the year ...

Only this was a special event, a Baptism over on Skopelos. A journey via Glossa to Christ Church in Skopelos town. The coach trip punctuated by telephone calls, many that went like this ...

Where are you ?
I am on Skopelos ...
What are you doing there ?
Its a Baptism ...
Why did they not do it here ?
Deberasi ...
When are you getting back ?
Avrio ...
How there are no ferries ...

I ended up being elected as the official photographer for the event. Quite a surprise and a weighty responsibility. I had a sweat on despite the cool temperature in the autumn sunshine

However I am very pleased with this one, which I think sums the day up ...

The Baptism involves the bathing of the baby, in a copper font. Anointed with Olive oil and Holy Water. A lock of hair is cut and the baby dressed in beautiful new clothes.

Following the service we retired to a taverna in Glossa. There was good food, music, dancing and traditional celebrations to wet the babies head ...

    1. A lovely day spent with good friends. It's the season Now for baptisms, and weddings. Next Saturday it's time to throw some rice and almonds.Peak season for the pappas ...
