Holy Thursday – Megali Pempti ...

Knock Knock - Who is there ?

Today it will be children with their hand made cross, decorated with flowers, after the communion service this morning.

The children will be touring the streets, gaining rewards for their efforts decorating their cross, with flowareers representing the crucifixion. Will try to get some photos later ...

This mornings view from the rock ...
Philiposs departing Volos this afternoon, for the island. Stig another avid reader of the blog, is on his way from Norway to be here for Pasca, arriving tonight. It may get a bit blurry later this week ...
The Flying Red Green and white thingy ...

There are some lovely decorated shops for Pasca, here is the Stock house in the square behind the church. The lady here makes a great effort with her window displays. She has just replaced the Olive tree which was stolen, with a lovely flower. I hope it lasts the season ...

My lovely neighbour Maria from Thessaloniki, has just brought us a lovely Pasca bread as a gift. Its decorated with the red egg, to represent Christ's bleeding heart ...

When the paint starts drying on the wood before your eyes, you

A: Know its too warm ...

B: Know its time for a coffee ...

So that what I did - This morning at Archontiko, and very good it was too. Miri did a grand job with this one.

Quite busy down on the Old Harbour, as the party boat arrived from the mainland and an day trip dropped off some more sedate passengers for a walk around town in the heat.

No ferry until later this afternoon, it departs at 13:30 from Volos on the Easter week schedule. Hopefully bringing many from the mainland to enjoy Pasca in Skiathos ...

Later update:

Exhausted, after a day in the sun with a loaded paintbrush. I was called to the front line for a beer, by Major Philiposs. It was tough but an order is an order. So after a rejuvenating FIX beer, I was called to the new harbour for the arrival of the Kalypso.

So the arrival of Kalypso means that Summer is here, and probably employment for the Skiathian. I felt quite emotional as the boat arrived, the horns blasting out their 'Hello honey, I am home' tune across the port.

I retreated to Taverna Stamatis, where the boys again tried to kill me. I listened to the priest - Pappa Yorgos as his voice was relayed, by loudspeakers over the harbour, from the church at the Megali Pempti mass service, as the funeral bell tolled.

Its Easter, town is buzzing, the ferry arrived bursting at the seams, 1000 Brits arriving on Friday to join the party.

Wish you were here ? Of course you do - You are missing the event of the year ...
