Lets get out of here ...

Every once in a while, you have to leave the rock ...

So when you are waiting for the flying Cat, this is the view you get, sometimes people have been known to break down in tears.

So off to the big city we go ...

Now I do like Volos, it has life energy, and a buzzing street cafe society. It has great architecture, some in good state of repair and others not so good ...

It also has shops filled with everything the heart can desire. It has supermarkets with full shelves, goods sometimes at a fraction of the price that we pay here.

However I love the fish market where everything can be bought straight from the boat.

Thats not an Octopi he said - Seemed like it was to me - but ...

You want a photo he said and picked up this monster - This is Octopi, he said ...

... and I just had to agree.

Back on the waterfront, I looked back as boats were being prepared for the coming season.Three left for Skiathos that morning for their Summer adventures. Last year I had watched them depart too ...

Take it from me, its a long walk from one end of the harbour to the other. Then from the sailors statue on  the sea wall its the same distance again, to get to the navigation light.

But you are rewarded with great views ...

At times you are nearer to the boats than to anything else ...

Soon it was time to return, and junior reminded me it was warm, that we had walked a long way, and that the main ingredient in any summer, was still missing back in Skiathos - Ice cream ...

So we went into Goody's, a Greek version of Mc Donalds, with shaded seating on the port, a filter coffee is just €1, as is a large cup of ice cream. We feasted on the ice cream, having come from, the Ice cream barren lands of Skiathos (Fridges close 1st October)

We joined the queue of teenagers being served by a harassed lady with bottle blonde hair, and dark roots. Probably another resting paleontologist from one of the universities. The only thing on the queues agenda for most of the giggling girls was an ice cream.

When junior realised what the big Capagiani machine dispensed, the excitement was nearly uncontainable. My arms stretched to breaking point, trying to stop junior dispensing it for everyone - Gratis.

Yes that Ice cream tasted mighty fine, after six long months. Yes it made us cough, Yes we experienced the brain freeze - But ice cream has never - ever - tasted so good ...
