Tsiknopempti - Charred Thursday ...

Its the Carnival season, and today is Tsiknopempti - Charred Thursday ...

Burnt or Charred Thursday in Greece. Its the day when you BBQ as much meat as you can and feast yourself. The name Tsiknopempti refers to the smell of charcoal, and grilled meats, wafting through the air.

Its also the day that the school advised me that I would be assisting, at the childrens carnival party at the Bourtzi, on Carnival weekend - which is great news. Here you either support cats or dogs, whereas I support the other waifs and strays, the little humans ...

There are a few parties on the cards already ...

The carnival dates:
  • Tsiknopempti or "Burnt Thursday": March 7th
  • Tsiknopempti Weekend: Friday, March 8th - Sunday, March 10th
  • Main Carnival Weekend: Friday, March 15th - Sunday, March 17th
  • Clean Monday: Monday, March 18th

For the last two weeks junior has been bringing home little carnival souvenirs. Masks of various shapes and sizes. Today's version a cat, Yesterday a small kite a symbol for Clean Monday, when we go to Koukounnaries and fly them high - weather permitting.

In addition every day the odd mention of a 'party' with friends ...

I guess we need to go and buy a party outfit - I wonder what to wear ...
