First day of spring ...

Is a good day to start feeling better ...

Regular readers including my learned friend in 'Surrey via Sifnos' will know I have been laid low. For the best part of two weeks have been fighting a bug. One that finally claimed its victim after a long fight, and a great childrens party at the Bourtzi on Saturday.

Only now after 3.5 days confined to bed, after a visit to the excellent team at the Skiathos Medical centre - am I prepared to return to light duties.

Fresh from sawing up wood this afternoon, my lungs at bursting point and soaked in sweat ...

Who needs sunshine ?
I was thinking if only I could be sitting outside in the spring sunshine, I would feel a lot better. Only the skies were grey, and the temperature cool and a cold sweat is no good for anyone. In fact is it Spring at all ?

So - Spring has finaly sprung - or has it ?

For most of us that looking at the calendar, that day is March 20th, and for spring to start then you need the vernal equinox to occur.

The Vernal Equinox:
The word equinox is derived from the Latin words meaning “equal night.” Days and nights are approximately equal everywhere and the Sun rises and sets due east and west.

So that is today isn't it

Er - No its not ...

You see in Skiathos, we are a little ahead of you heading towards summer ...

17th March Sun rise 06:35 Sunset 18:35 12 hours Eastern European Time (EET) GMT+2

Further proof were it needed, that this little green island in the aegean, is a few days ahead of the game ...

  1. Glad to know you are feeling better. And the spring will soon be in you're step. Don't be doing to much at once you need your strength for the coming months ahead. Take care ;)
