Wild night ...

That was a wild one ...

Its a little bit more like winter here on the island. The rain started last night around 8pm with a lashing of the roof. Like a thousand ants with hobnail boots with a great intensity. I was very pleased that the shutters had been closed earlier.

Then torrential rain overnight, really hammering against the roof. Streets awash and waterfalls cascading from the roofs into the cobbled streets below. It was the type of rainfall that wreaks havoc here on the island.

Once the `Sunrise has occurred` the winds strength has increased.

Thankfully at the moment they have not cut off the power like they did yesterday morning. However I suggest Troulos, will not be pretty, and quite a few roads will need a visit, from the road levelling machine, in the next day or so.

Time for a coffee, as the church bells of Tries Hieraches, have just reminded me, and seagulls scream and squawk overhead ...

09.50am Update: A line of thunderstorms approaching the island, the wild weather looks set to continue

Report from Athens on a flood rescue here

19:00pm I learned tonight that someone broke into one of my elderly neighbours house, last night. What a great shame she was not in, or they would have known all about it. Some people make you really angry ...

  1. A break in...in Skiathos...out of season.
Thought that was confined only to our culture.
What a pity, especially for an elderly lady who has lived through a time when this was unheard of.
