Plans for redeveloping the ferry port ...

Option A - Changes to the current ferry terminal

Option B - New Ferry terminal

Both plans show a new sea wall, to protect the old harbour from the south winds. A nice new marina, and development of the foreshore down at Liminaria and along club strip. The hatched/grid lined areas on the plans are the area designated for the aircraft final approach to the airport.

So lets assume, Fishing boats in the old harbour, Tourist boats in the new harbour, Yachts to the marinas, and the Ferry port and cruise liners berthing at the south of Plakes. It would need an access road along the foreshore and up to Acropolis, removing the dangerous bottleneck on the paralia..

The swell from the ferries is a big problem - the 'New' Old harbour sea wall, can be built from what's left over, when they redevelop the airport, and build the hospital.

So its plans that were mooted a few years ago, but now seeing the light of day. Innovative and forward thinking, so probably (and sadly) that is where they will stay - on the drawing board ...

Traditionalists years ago when the view was like this ...

Would have struggled with the view, that there would be great big ferries, right where they moored, and aircraft flying overhead and landing in the swamp, by the lake with 250 people on each one - That's progress for you ...
