Damp start ...

Yes its rather showery here at the moment ...

Usually this weekend sees the start of our bad weather, when we can get snow on the island. Its not that far away, but being an island and surrounded by a warm sea. The chances are lower of any snowfall except on high ground.

No risk of that it seems this weekend, however its a wet weekend, breezy too, and lasting possibly even until Tuesday.

Here is the weather forecast for 3pm today ...

Here is my local forecast - Issued at 07:15am - For the same period.

Winds from the North force 4, temperature outside 10 degrees, Showers.
Wine - Red, at around 6 degrees. Woodburner on low heat, a good book, or TV, and possibly a bar of chocolate - subject to regular local intervention by junior ...

11am Update: Winds have increased as noted on my two trips out across town this morning. Clouds, heavy and dark over the hills. Spots of rain that attack you like machine gun bullets in the wind. I picked up a huge bag of Spinach (Spanaki) and a broccoli the size of a football, from the vegetable stall operated by the man from the riding school.

Vasilis from the Red Fishing boat, greeted me like an old friend, and a fishy handshake. He runs the Lalaria tour boat in the summer. Shame I could not take any of his fish, a couple of boxes of lovely Barbounia, and  codfish, Huge prawns like small lobsters - excellent for soup. No fishing for either of the trawlers today.

Its not cold but the chill from the wind is recognisable on peoples faces, sucked in taught, eyes squinting against the cold air. In addition those on scooters, are riding one handed. The free hand clasped to the neck to keep out the chill.

Wintry chill means hearty food, tonight its a pork roll joint for a slow roast, from the butcher by the fire station ...

15:00hrs Update: Rain - It was showers mixed with sleet and occasional large flakes of snow - Now torrential. Wind has increased around force 6. Most people are battened down indoors. Me with a glass of Carrefour Cotes Du Rhone, listening to the rain rattling on the roof and pouring into the street, from the house opposite. Woodburner prepared but not lit just yet ...
