Put the lights back on ...

Just as Australia beat England at Twickenham it all went dark ...

So after looking outside at a pitch black street, I knew we were not alone. One of the things about living on a Greek island is the power cuts. Often unannounced and sometimes extremely annoying. From the voices in the darkened streets, this one was no different ...

After I had wandered round the house, with my torch, and fired up the camping lamps, and lit the candles it was quite cosy. How long will this one be we thought - Saturday evening - an all nighter we wondered ...

After an hour my neighbour called, and came round for a cup of tea. Better we all sit in the dark together, rather than all alone. So just as i put the saucepan on the camping stove, the power came back.

It seems one of the islanders, driving their car on the ring road, has come into contact with an electricity pylon. They have walked away from the crash, and also reduced our electricity bills for a few hours, as well as blacking out most of the island ...

The lights are back on, we are still at home, and well done the inventor of airbags ....
