Power cut and the big storm ...

The power went off at 2am ...

Great fun here, an 18 hour power cut, strong winds and snow showers. Cooking on a woodburner in the warming glow of a Gaz lamp. We seem to have missed the worst of the weather - Volos apparently has a foot of snow, and Evia across the sea - is visibly "all white"

A major power pylon collapsed in the overnight storm on the Pelion. This took out the supply to half the Pelion and all of Skiathos/Skopelos/Alonnisos. The word was that we will have no power for three days.

Later this morning we were advised that it would be 15 days. This emptied the shops of all the gas bottles, and camping kit by 4pm.

What to do - well no stress, you have to sit it out - so tonight i found myself slow cooking by candlelight on the 'Mighty woodburner' at 'log mark 3' and it was great fun. My boys own recipe for Chicken Livers in a red wine and tomato sauce, will be made available to interested parties - It really was very good ...

As if by magic just as we were dining by candleight, the power came back on. However the locals clearly are not convinced. Now four hours later, the generatiors are still drumming away into the night ...
